The Brief: Hallway & Library Refurbishment – Creating a Welcoming First Impression
Our brief for this care home project focused on transforming the Hallway and Library—two of the most pivotal areas for first impressions—into warm, welcoming spaces that balance functionality with comfort.
The SolutionAs the first areas seen by residents, families, and guests, the hallway and library play a vital role in shaping the initial impression of the care home. Our aim was to create spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and reflective of the home’s core values of care, dignity, and community.
The Hallway was reimagined to provide a calm and uplifting sense of arrival. We proposed a range of colour palettes, and the client chose a fresh, spring-inspired scheme featuring soft yellows and greens—tones that beautifully echo the stained glass detail on the front door. The result is a space that feels both personal and optimistic, setting a positive tone from the moment you step inside.
The Library, a multifunctional room, was designed to offer both a cosy retreat for residents and a gracious setting for welcoming new visitors. The client wanted a more intimate, homely atmosphere here, so we introduced richer, deeper tones—such as aubergine and dark green—to add warmth and depth. A chess set adds a personal, interactive element that encourages quiet engagement and conversation.
Together, these spaces now embody a thoughtful blend of hospitality, comfort, and character—enhancing everyday living while making those first encounters feel special and reassuring.
